Max Verstappen is in the top 20 of Forbes' 2024 highest-paid athletes list, making him the F1 driver with the highest earnings over the past year.

Ranked at number 17, the Dutchman's annual earnings surpass those of NFL quarterback Aaron Rodgers of the New York Jets and golfer Rory McIlroy, who are just behind him.

The Red Bull driver earned $81 million in the last 12 months, with $76 million from his lucrative team contract and $5 million from off-track activities like endorsement deals.

Lewis Hamilton is close behind at number 21. However, the British driver's off-track earnings surpass Verstappen's.

The seven-time champion earned $12 million from these activities, and with his $57 million annual Mercedes contract, his total earnings reached $69 million.

Football, golf, and basketball dominated the top five. Cristiano Ronaldo topped the list with $260 million, $60 million of which came from off-field activities.

LIV Golf's John Rahm took second place, followed by Lionel Messi in third. LA Laker LeBron James was the highest-ranked American in fourth, with fellow NBA star Giannis Antetokounmpo in fifth.

No other motorsport drivers made it into the top 50.
