Niklas Landin remains uncertain about when he will be fit to return to the handball court following his recent eye injury.
Visually, there is no obvious indication that something is wrong with Landin. However, despite some improvement in his right eye, he is still not fully recovered.
Landin spoke to TV 2 Sport on Thursday evening ahead of Aalborg’s Danish Championship semi-final against Skjern, sharing insights into his current condition.
"You can't see anything, but I can see something when I look the other way... I think it’s getting better and better," Landin said. "I will be tested again tomorrow (Friday), and we’ll see what the ophthalmologist says – whether the bleeding has subsided a bit."
Landin elaborated that he is not yet worried, as he continues to notice progress. Nevertheless, he acknowledged that if the improvement halts in the coming days, his concerns would grow.
Currently, Landin is under strict orders to limit his activities. He is not allowed to elevate his heart rate significantly and is not participating in team training sessions.
Landin’s issue stems from a hemorrhage in his right retina, which he finds difficult to describe. "Right now, I see... how should I explain it? Small flashes of light or a line that I can’t feel when I shift focus," Landin explained.
"It’s becoming less frequent. It was more prevalent earlier. I’ve experienced this many times, but this time it just didn’t go away. The ophthalmologist even questioned why I hadn’t sought medical attention sooner with all the other hits, but I never did."
The injury occurred during a league match against Bjerringbro-Silkeborg on May 5th. Since then, Landin has not played and last week he left the Danish national team’s camp, missing Denmark's two test matches against Norway and Croatia.
Landin will also be absent from Aalborg’s lineup Thursday evening as they face Skjern in the first Danish Championship semi-final.
